Common 6 Stainless Steel Surface Treatment Processes

2023-11-08

1. mirror processing

The mirror treatment of stainless steel is simply to polish the surface of stainless steel. The polishing method is divided into physical polishing and chemical polishing. It can also be partially polished on the surface of stainless steel. The polishing grade is divided into ordinary polishing, ordinary 6K, fine grinding 8K, super fine grinding 10K effect. The mirror gives a feeling of high-end simplicity and a stylish future.

2. sandblasting

This is the most common surface treatment process for stainless steel processing. It is mainly the power obtained by compressing air. The high-speed jet beam sprays the spray onto the surface of the workpiece to be processed, causing the shape of the outer surface of the workpiece to change.

Sand blasting is mainly used in engineering and surface processes, such as improving the viscosity of bonding parts, optimizing machined surface burrs, decontamination, and matte finish. This process is much better than hand-grinding. The surface structure of the sandblasted surface is uniform, which can create low-key and durable features of the product, and the production and processing efficiency is high. Manual sanding can produce a matte surface but the speed is too slow, and chemical solvent cleaning will clean the surface too smooth for coating adhesion.

3. Chemical treatment

This process primarily uses a combination of chemical and electrochemical methods to treat a stable compound formed on the surface of stainless steel. For example, the plating that is common in our lives is one of chemical treatments.

The chemical treatment mainly relies on the rust removal by a separate or mixed acidic solution, a cation solution or the like. The protective film is then formed on the metal surface by chromate treatment, phosphate treatment, anodization, blackening, and the like. This process is mainly used to create complex pattern effects, vintage or current design requirements.

4. surface coloring

The surface coloring process of stainless steel can bring different colors of stainless steel, making the metal more colorful. Coloring not only makes the stainless steel more plentiful in appearance, but also effectively improves the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of the product.

Commonly used surface coloring methods are: chemical coloring method, electrochemical oxidation coloring method, ion deposition oxide coloring method, high temperature oxidation coloring method, gas phase cracking coloring method and the like.

5. Hairline surface

Hairline or Brushed surface a decorative method that is very common in life. It can be made into straight lines, threads, corrugations, chaos and swirls. This kind of surface treatment has the characteristics of good hand feeling, fine gloss and strong abrasion resistance. It has a wide range of applications in electronic equipment, home appliances, and mechanical equipment.

6. spraying

Stainless steel spraying is substantially different from the above coloring treatment. Some paints may damage the stainless steel surface oxide layer due to the difference in materials. However, some sprays can be used to achieve different colors of stainless steel products in a simple process, and different sprays can be used to change the feel of stainless steel.
